About Dr. Maria Montessori

“The world which Columbus discovered was a world without; Dr. Montessori discovered a world within ~ within the soul of the child.” – E.M. Standing.

The Montessori system of education takes its name after its discoverer, Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952). She became Italy’s first female doctor against all odds. Eventually, through this profession she was able to leap into the depths of the child’s mind.

She championed an educational method which encourages a “love for learning”. Her method is built around the end result of education, that is: Development of a complete human being: Education for life. Through years of study, observing the child and after conducting many experiments, she developed a way to achieve this.

Her influence can also be seen in child development and child care.
